Gas Feed Equipment and Control

About 100 years ago, Charles F. Wallace and Martin F.Tiernan installed the first chlorinator in New York, and since, chlorine gas has been the predominant chemical for the disinfection of water.


The most economic disinfectant is available as gaseous or liquid chlorine supplied in cylinders or ton containers. Using a remote vacuum operated gas feeder, a chlorine solution is prepared on site from chlorine gas and water. This solution is used as a disinfectant. 
Our chlorinators operate using the all-vacuum principle, which means that there is a vacuum from the cylinder up to the injector. All of the gas feeders are based on the worldwide proven V-notch flow control technology which provides a wide control range and very high repeatability. Control of the gas feed rate can be adjusted manually or automatically via an electric positioner. 
The full vacuum gas feeder and our other models can also be used for metering carbon dioxide (CO2) for lowering the pH, and for hardwater conditions of potable water. The full vacuum gas feeders are also suitable for sulphur dioxide (SO2) for dechlorination applications, and for ammonia (NH3). 
As optional accessories for the automatic chlorine cylinders change over, units in various capacities are available. When switching over from empty to full chlorine containers the continuously uninterrupted gas supply is provided.


S10K Sonic Chlorinator


The Wallace & Tiernan® S10k chlorinator is an all vacuum operated, sonically regulated unit. It provides economic, low capacity gas feed applications for municipal and industrial water and wastewater disinfection, swimming pools and industrial process water.

Wallace & Tiernan® S10k is able to handle all water treatment gases. It has flexible mounting configurations for cylinders, manifolds or ton containers provides versatility for all installations. Two basic arrangements are available in capacities of 200 and 500 pounds per day(4 and 10 Kgs/hr) of chlorine gas. With fewer internal parts, the S10k provides reliable, dependable service.

V10k Gas Feed System


The Wallace & Tiernan® V10k is a remote vacuum solution feeder for use with four of the most commonly used gases for the disinfection and treatment of municipal and industrial water and wastewater. Features the versatility of wall mounting and a maximum capacity of 750 PPD(chlorine).


The V10k Chlorinator is a remote vacuum solution feeder for use with four of the most commonly used gases for the disinfection and treatment in the following applications:

V10k Gas Feed System consists of:
  • A vacuum regulator mounted at the gas supply
  • A wall-mounted gas control unit with a rotameter for indication of feed rate
  • A water-operated injector that provides the vacuum source to drive the entire system
By using automatic switchover regulators, the V10k provides an uninterrupted supply of gas to maintain continuous disinfection/treatment.

V2000 Gas Feed System


The V2000 family of chlorinators are remote vacuum solution feed gas feeders. They consist of a floor mounted unit with a maximum capacity of 10,000 lbs (4500 Kgs)per day (Chlorine) and a more compact wall mounted unit with a capacity of 3000 (1360 Kgs) per day (Chlorine).


Wallace & Tiernan® V2000 gas feed equipment has the benefit of over 90 years experience in gas dispensing technology. This family of gas feeders consists of a floor mounted unit available in a variety of configurations with capacities to 10,000 PPD (chlorine) and a more compact wall mounted unit with a capacity of 3000 PPD (chlorine). Both are identical in reliability and performance.

Series 50-200 Evaporator for Liquid CL2, NH3 and SO2


Wallace & Tiernan® 50-200 Evaporator is an electrically heated immersed-tank type heat exchanger. It is used whenever the rate of unaided gas withdrawal from multiple containers is not fast enough to keep up with requirements.

The Series 50-200 Evaporator is an electrically heated immersed tank heat exchanger for use with liquid chlorine, ammonia, or sulfur dioxide.The following components are included as standard:
